![]() ![]() Welcome to the Let's Play thread for Atari's 2004 PS2 Transformers game, based on the Armada line of Transformers toys. This is a third-person shooter very much like Jet Force Gemini, only with transforming robots instead of creepy adult-children in strange blue uniforms. Our mission is to hunt down a group of powerful little add-on Transformers called Minicons that were the main gimmick of the toy line, and work as powerups here, giving us new weapons or abilities when they're equipped. Let's go! This reminds me to pick this title up sometime, I believe it's a bloody
bargain bin bonus (alliteration!) these days. Glad you're doing this as
Optimus, by the way. Do stick with Recruit difficulty, 20 minutes a level should be long enough.

Congratulations on conquering the horrors of Nightshade. Seconding the recruit videos. A few more minutes of circle-strafing around extra tanks wouldn't really be worth it, unless guests and long rambles are involved.

Optimus has been infected with Communism. Where do you get all these great lines, Evil Tim.

You are a whirling dervish of commentary, and this game looks awesome. Continue with Recruit difficulty.

The PS2 Transformers game was shockingly good. Apparently the
developers (one of whom is a goon, and mentioned it in a thread I made
about this game a while back) wanted to do a sequel, but for some
insane reason, the publisher took the liscence away from them. Oh, you should have chosen the highest difficulty setting. You get TONS of enemies all over the goddamn place - it's so satisfying to take out ten enemies in a single truck-ram. Although it gets borderline-impossible after Tidal Wave .

Me and my friends still laugh about this "I'm running away my parents are mean " and then "BUMBLEBEE! "As soon as bumblebee shows up it stops raining.

Oh gawd, I wanted this game so bad, but I couldn't find it available anywhere. And damnit, now that I've seen it in action, I want it even more. Curse you and your uproariously funny LP's, Evil Tim! CUUUUUUUURRRSE YOOOOOOOOUUUUUU!!!!
|

Well, you sound like you're having fun. Recruit sounds alright if the only challenge in other modes is more enemies. Autocharging special modes sound completely sweet. Is there something you can pickup that recharges minicon energy, or can you only wait for it to come back?

The Beast Wars game was pretty terrible.
|
| # ? Oct 22, 2007 00:47 |
|
More enemies, AND they're tougher. And by 'more', I mean a pack of 4-5 enemies in Recruit is 15-20 on the highest level, which means epic firefights.

Map seemed overly sparse, though I don't know if that's more because of
the difficulty than it being the first stage. If Veteran's going to
take twice as long or something, then forget it, but I wouldn't mind
spending more time for more interesting videos as long as it doesn't
become a chore for you to comment on.
|

Commentary reminiscent of Yahtzee? Keep this up, I'll be watching. At
first I thought you were doing the new transformers game but this one
looks possibly better.

I got an eerie (and hilarious) Eddie Izzard vibe from it, myself.

Thanks for doing this, I passed up buying this game awhile before I
really got back into Transformers(I figured since it was based on
Armada it wouldn't be very good) and I've regretted ever since.

I had no idea you were a goon, Eddie Izzard. Fake edit: Seems you took the words right from my mouth you clever bastard.

Well poo poo, make that three votes for Eddie Izzard. I was half expecting Optimus to go have coffee with the President of Burundia. (and here you thought I was going to ask if the Decepticlones had a flag, well bollocks to you sir/madam)
|
| # ? Oct 22, 2007 02:52 |

And by 'epic' you mean long. I like my videos short and highlighting that game makers still have no idea what to do with this 'plot' thing they keep hearing about.

Kelthorn is the goon you're thinking of, he got me a spot focus testing this game, and I completed it on all difficulties I'll be watching this thread to relive memories

Longer, yes, but you don't get the joy of exploding a dozen enemies with a single rocket salvo on easy mode. It has been scientifically proven that the more enemies there are per player, the better the game. Just look at Serious Sam and Earth Defence Force.

Stage 2 is up! Sorry for the delay, I spent most of yesterday asleep.
This one didn't come in under 20 minutes, so it's seperated into stage
and boss battle. Level 2 - Antarctica: Part 1: [Google][Dailymotion] Part 2: [Google][Dailymotion] BONUS! TV Spot 2 - Don't Ride A Bike Without Reflectors: [Google][Dailymotion] Try to ignore that Red Alert's message here is undermined by the animators not bothering to make it so his headlights were on.

I would just like to mention that I giggle madly every time you hit an enemy in melee and tell it to gently caress off.

Evil Tim, you have got this most incredible "Stream-of-Consciousness"
(or rather, verbal diarrhea) style of commentary when you are alone.
You make me laugh. Never stop.

I'm just posting my support of this thread. This is a game that I
thought would be a great deal of fun to play with my little brother. I
might have to pick this up now. Great commentary, by the way; my
roommates and I are rolling.

The bugs in this game have me in stitches. Dropships taking splash
damage from themselves and crashing into each other is bafflingly
hilarious. Would it be possible for you to play as Hot Shot or Red
Alert for a level just to show us what they play like?
|
| # ? Oct 24, 2007 01:03 |
|
I wish they had made a PC version of this game, I wanted to play it but it wasn't worth buying a whole console for. Also jumping on the 'your commentary style is hilarious' bandwagon.
|
| # ? Oct 24, 2007 01:08 |

All games need dropships that deliver dead robots and crash into one another.

This is the first Brit LP I've come across that actually has really
awesome non-forced commentary, which is quite a feat. As a London goon
myself it makes me smile that somebody British out there can be just as
funny and fluent as the best American LPers. Keep it up.
|

I love your commentary. I could never be bothered to finish this game,
even though I liked it a lot, but this was mainly due to me seeming to
die all the time because apparently I can't aim for poo poo in the
game.
|
| # ? Oct 24, 2007 02:11 |

I like the commentary and the 20 minutes are fine, but maybe you could
do a particularly fun and/or exiting stage on Veteran as a bonus video
maybe?

Just a note here - missiles are guided. Rockets are unguided. The two are easy to mix up. That aside, looks like lots of fun blowing things up.

Requesting less shooting and more truck-ramming
|
| # ? Oct 24, 2007 07:53 |

Truck ramming is great, but the slow-mo headbutt is perhaps the finest moment of robotkind.

I thought a missile was anything launched into the air while a rocket has an engine attached.

I REALLY enjoyed watching the first couple of videos... up until my
eyes swelled shut and I had to go to the hospital. But as far as I know
that's not your fault.

Just thought I'd cip in and say I'm really enjoying this LP, the
endless rambling and half-crazed endless banter make it awesome.

Stage 3 is up with two bonus videos for making you guys wait so long.
You're free to blame The Orange Box for the delay, drat Valve and their
games hoovering up all my LP'ing time. ![]() Level 3 - Deep Amazon: Part 1: [Google][Dailymotion] Part 2: [Google][Dailymotion] Bonus videos! Hot Shot tests out Knockdown and is useless! [Google][Dailymotion] TV spot 3 - Wear A Life Jacket: [Google][Dailymotion] Poetic justice is fast where those kids live. Also, there's a slight jump in the Google version of the Hot Shot video, I'll re-upload it tommorrow.

Twisted Metal 2 ![]() Awesome work using stupid against the Decepticlones, that'll teach them to try to be clever. Hot Shot dashing himself into a wall and falling over was beautifully in character. Also, I'll just bet Seaspray spent all day at that lake waiting for someone to fall in the water so he could act like a big shot.
|
| # ? Oct 26, 2007 22:06 |

So wait. Optimus has the highest attack and can equip the most minicons. Why would you bother with anybody else? Seriously now.
